It’s a bit of a buzz word at the minute isn’t it! It’s everywhere, even in the workplace…Well-being.  Everyone’s talking about it, wants to know more about it, and definitely needs to get more of it.

It probably conjures up visions of some zen master doing mindfulness with candles and oils and telling you to walk super slowly, more slowly than a snail, and take a moment to enjoy the beauty of a bee on a buttercup….and you think “Nice for some, not for me, sounds lovely, but seriously…catch a grip of your…” or is that just me?

But what is it? And why is it so important? Why are so many people talking about it?
The state of being well.
The oracle of Google defines it as “the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.” which to be honest, means a lot more to me than a yoga retreat with some kind of green liquid diet.  And there’s nothing wrong with those things, I like the odd smoothie myself, and I do like to do a bit of yoga when the notion strikes me.
I think it’s probably easier to say that well-being is about stress – managing it where you have to, addressing it where you can, and avoiding it where you can – and it’s inevitable outcome.

As we, as a culture, have become busier and more stressed, the physical health implications of our lifestyles are becoming increasingly evident.  And they’re not good.  The Mayo Clinic says (the American’s among you will appreciate the spellings here) “stress symptoms can affect your body, your thoughts and feelings, and your behavior. Being able to recognize common stress symptoms can give you a jump on managing them. Stress that’s left unchecked can contribute to manyhealth problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes”

I’ve been through my share of trials and tribulations over the years, and I’m going through a few at the minute, so well-being, as in being well, is something I’ve come to really value, and it’s something I’ve looked into, tried many and varied options in the well-being menu of delights, and I’ve come to find what works for me, the things that I enjoy, the things I dip into from time-to-time, the things that are on my SOS list when things get really tough but aren’t part of the daily dose.  I’ve also found that some things work at different times for different situations and at different times in my life.

So this part of the site is where I’ll be posting all things Well-being related, it’s where you’ll find the fruits of my efforts to investigate and report back to you on all things well-being from exercise and workouts, approaches to life, practical things to do, and even a few recipes.  It’s where I’ll post my own insights and musings and the things I’ve learned along the way, my thoughts and opinions and probably some recommendations.
